Spongeworks is the creation of Jen Weller, a Cordon Bleu-trained chef from Guildford, Surrey. After leaving school, Jen trained at the prestigious Tante Marie School of Cookery and graduated in 2007 with double distinction upon gaining the Cordon Bleu Diploma. In addition, she was the recipient of the Wendy Majerowitz trophy, which is awarded to the student of the year.
Soon after graduating, Jen’s love of travelling took her to the French Alps, where she worked as a private chef for Fish & Pips, a luxury ski chalet company in the beautiful village of Méribel. After three ski seasons, Jen returned to the UK where she worked as a chef for Loseley House, a 16th Century country house and exclusive wedding venue just outside Guildford.
In 2011, Jen started working for Kalm Kitchen, a bespoke wedding and event catering company based in Puttenham, Surrey. From here, Jen’s passion for creating beautiful wedding cakes took off, and two years later she set up Spongeworks from her Surrey Hills home.
Fast forward five years, and a Spongeworks cake features regularly at a small selection of wedding venues across the South East, including Millbridge Court in Farnham, Micklefield Hall in Rickmansworth, Gate Street Barn in Bramley near Guildford, Fetcham Park near Leatherhead, to name but a few.
In addition, Spongeworks is one of a few carefully selected partners at Millbridge Court wedding venue in Farnham, Surrey. In March 2018, Spongeworks was delighted to be featured in You & Your Wedding magazine (have a look here) for a Spring wedding in Ripley, Surrey.
